The Electoral Literacy Club of BLDE (Deemed to be University), School of Law, Vijayapura, successfully organised a Talk on Democracy on 22 September 2025 for the benefit of B.A. LL.B. students. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding of democratic values, constitutional principles, and the role of citizens in a democratic system.
The programme commenced with a brief introductory session highlighting the importance of democracy in contemporary society and the relevance of electoral literacy among law students. The resource person for the session, Mr. Mallesh Torvi, Lecturer, was warmly welcomed.
During his address, Mr. Mallesh Torvi elaborated on the concept of democracy, its historical evolution, and its significance within the Indian constitutional framework. He explained the core principles of democracy, including liberty, equality, fraternity, rule of law, and popular sovereignty. Special emphasis was laid on the role of elections, voter awareness, and the active participation of citizens in strengthening democratic institutions.
