The 11th Convocation of BLDE (Deemed to be University) was held on Friday 20th October 2023. The Chief Guest for the convocation was Dr. SHARANA PRAKASH PATIL, HON’BLE PRO-CHANCELLOR, RAJIV GANDHI UNIVERSITY of HEALTH SCIENCES, BENGALURU Hon’ble Minister, Medical Education, Skill & Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Govt. of Karnataka.
The 10th Convocation
The 10th Convocation of BLDE (Deemed to be University) was held on Monday 12th September 2022. The Chief Guest for the convocation was PROF. DR. P. V. VIJAYARAGHAVAN, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research (Deemed to be University), Chennai.
The 9th Convocation
The 9th Convocation of BLDE (Deemed to be University) was held on Thursday 30th December 2021. Due to COVID19 guidelines, the convocation was held virtually. The Chief Guest for the convocation was Dr. PRATIMA MURTHY, DPM, M.D, FRCP, DIRECTOR, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH & NEUROSCIENCES, BENGALURU
The 8th Convocation
The 8th Convocation of BLDE (Deemed to be University) was held on Wednesday 26th August 2020. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the convocation was held virtually. The Chief Guest for the convocation was Prof. Nanduri R Prabhakar Harold Hines Jr. Professor of Medicine University of Chicago Illinois, USA. The chief guest joined the convocation online. In this convocation for the first time in the history of BLDE (Deemed to be University) two doctoral degrees and one distinguished chair professor award were conferred. Prof. Nanduri R Prabhakar was conferred the degree of Doctor of science (Honoris causa) for his eminent work in the field of science and Shri C M Ramesh was conferred the degree of Doctor of literature (Honoris causa) for his eminent work in the field of social science. Professor K K Das was honoured with distinguished chair professor award. Two scientist awards were given in this convocation. Senior scientist award was given to Dr.Lata Mullur for her research contribution in the field of physiology and young scientist award was given to Dr.Aruna Biradar for her research contribution in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Prof. Nanduri R Prabhakar in his convocational address stated that learning is an endless process; which does not end after completion of studies or graduation. He urged the students not to deny healthcare to anyone and not to discriminate patients on the basis of payment. He also made a point that getting a degree in Medical discipline should not become a hindrance to contribute to advancement of science.
Prof. Nanduri R Prabhakar enlightened the gathering with his research on 1) How CO and H2S contribute to O2 sensing; 2) Consequences of O2 sensing in health; and 3) Genetic and epigenetic influence on O2 sensing.
In this 8th Virtual convocation following number of students were confirmed the degrees in various disciplines Ph.D. 12, Fellowship programs 02, PG Degree 61, PG Diploma 11, MBBS 127 and BSc MIT 13. Seventeen gold medals and three cash prizes were awarded to the outstanding students in various specialities.
