As said by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, 2nd president of India – “Library is a heart of an educational institution.” The main function of the heart is to pump the blood to all parts of the body similarly the aim of the Library is to pump the knowledge to all by various means such as the books & journals print and electronic version, training programs, and services. Library also supports teaching-learning and research programs.

Central Library was established in the year 1986. The Central Library, along with 25 departmental libraries is supporting the teaching, learning, and research, by providing physical and intellectual access to information. The library has a comprehensive collection of resources both in print and electronic form to fulfill the information needs of faculty, students, and research scholars. And it is serving as a resource centre for the Health Science information for medical professionals as well as allied health sciences professionals.

The Library with a built-in carpet area of 2400 sq. mtr. Spread over two floors, has separate reading halls for undergraduates/staff/postgraduates. The Central Library is completely air-conditioned. It has separate references, textbooks, and periodical sections. The overall seating capacity of the library is 750. Digital Library is having 56 computers with an internet speed of 1Gbps and can be accessible through the campus network and remote access.

One e-library is established in the hospital block to support the research activities of faculty/students.

BLDE (DU) Library  e-resources: Usage Policy

  • Electronic resources such as  e-journals, e-databases, e-books etc. made available by the Central Library, BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapur are for academic use.
  • These resources can be searched, browsed and material may be downloaded and printed as single copies of articles as is done in the case of printed library material. Downloading or printing of a complete book or an entire issue or a volume of one or more journals (called systematic downloading)is strictly prohibited.
  • Use of robots, spiders or intelligent agents to access, search and/or systematically download from these resources is also prohibited.
  • Any violation of this policy will result in penal action as per the rules and regulations of the Institute.
  • Please be aware that systematic downloading will cause the publisher to block to the entire community of users @ BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapur from accessing these resources

DIGITAL LIBRARY

The digital library is a gateway to electronic biomedical literature. The mission of the digital library is to provide an effective and efficient information infrastructure to the central library for providing access to the current and relevant, online resources, nurturing an environment and culture which is helpful in advancing the use of e-learning resources for enabling stakeholders to contribute in the global society. 43 systems have been provided with the objective to make it the academic hub.

The air-conditioned digital library is supported by a 120mbps lease line internet connection and is enabled with wi-fi. Access is provided to EPAC (Electronic Public Access Catalogue), Proquest Health Complete Database, e-journals, e-books, and free/open access resources directory, Institutional Repository. Digital resources also provided remote access with individual login credentials.  Swayam Prabha- DTH educational channels are installed, which transmits 32 educational channels. Printing, scanning, unlimited browsing, and download facilities are made available. RFID technology is implemented.
