- BLDE(DU) - ELECTORAL LITERACY CLUB
About
The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at BLDE (Deemed to be University) is an institutional initiative aimed at promoting electoral awareness and strengthening democratic values among students, faculty, and staff. The Club functions as a platform to educate young voters about the importance of voting, the electoral process, and their constitutional rights and responsibilities as informed citizens of India.
In alignment with the vision of the Election Commission of India, the ELC seeks to bridge the gap between citizens and the electoral system by fostering informed participation in elections. Through structured activities, awareness campaigns, and interactive sessions, the Club encourages ethical voting behaviour and active engagement in the democratic process, thereby nurturing responsible and empowered voters.
Importance of Electoral Literacy
A strong democracy depends on informed and active participation of its citizens. Electoral literacy empowers individuals to understand:
- The significance of their vote in shaping governance
- The electoral system and voting procedures in India
- The role of democratic institutions and constitutional values
By cultivating awareness at the university level, the ELC plays a vital role in preparing first-time voters and youth to participate meaningfully in elections and contribute to nation-building.
