The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapura successfully organized the Inauguration of the Democracy Room, Democracy Wall, and ELC Webpage on 24th December 2025 at the 2nd Floor, Department of Community Medicine, BLDE (Deemed to be University).
The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Y. M. Jayaraj, Pro-Chancellor, BLDE (Deemed to be University), who inaugurated the Democracy Room, Democracy Wall, and the ELC webpage hosted on the University website, marking a significant step towards strengthening electoral awareness through both physical and digital platforms.
The event was conducted in the esteemed presence of Dr. S. V. Patil, Dean, School of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Rekha Udgiri, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, along with the ELC Convenors from all five constituent colleges of BLDE (Deemed to be University). The ELC Convenors included Mr. Girish Bisanal, Convenor, ELC Club, School of Allied Health Sciences; Ms. Yogini Watwe, Convenor, ELC Club, School of Physiotherapy; Dr. Gurushantappa S. Kadakol, Convenor, ELC Club, School of Applied Science & Technology; and Ms. Lavanya Kulkarni, Convenor, ELC Club, School of Law. Faculty members from various disciplines, students from all constituent colleges, and University office staff were also present in large numbers.
During the programme, Dr. Sandeep Yankanchi, Nodal Officer, Electoral Literacy Club, elaborated on the various activities undertaken by the ELC Club, including voter awareness programmes, educational campaigns, student engagement activities, and community outreach initiatives. He emphasized the role of the ELC in fostering responsible citizenship and encouraging active participation in democratic processes.
The Democracy Room and Democracy Wall were inaugurated with the objective of promoting democratic values, electoral awareness, and informed civic participation among students and faculty. These initiatives are intended to serve as dedicated learning spaces focusing on the Indian electoral system, constitutional values, and voter responsibilities.
The inauguration marked an important milestone in reinforcing the University’s commitment to democratic education and civic responsibility, and reflected BLDE (Deemed to be University)’s continued efforts towards nurturing informed and responsible citizens.
