A special guest lecture on the topic “How to Control Accidents” was organized by BLDE (Deemed to be University) School of Law, Vijayapura on 11/05/2026 at 10:00 AM.
The program was inaugurated by the dignitaries through the watering of a sapling. The Chief Guest, Shri Prasanna Desai, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta Police Office, Belgaum, delivered the keynote address.
In his lecture, he spoke in detail about the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, and explained the constitutional provisions of the Indian Constitution relating to police administration. He highlighted that each state in India has its own police laws and elaborated on the functioning of the criminal justice system.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths due to road accidents in India and emphasized the urgent need to control them. He stressed that strict adherence to traffic rules, wearing helmets, maintaining speed limits, and following safety measures are essential to reduce accidents.
He also addressed the growing issue of cybercrime, stating that such crimes are increasing year by year. He advised students to exercise caution while using digital platforms. Speaking about the ill effects of drug abuse, he warned that harmful habits may begin with cigarettes and gradually lead to severe consequences, even death. He urged students to stay away from unhealthy activities and strive to become responsible and law-abiding citizens.
The program was presided over by Prof. Dr. Y. M. Jayaraj, Hon’ble Pro Chancellor. In his presidential address, he emphasized the importance of following traffic rules, wearing helmets, and maintaining speed control while driving. He encouraged students to give up bad habits and lead a disciplined and healthy life.

Faculty members from the Department of Forensic Medicine, along with faculty, non-teaching staff, and students of the Law School, actively participated in the program. The program commenced with a prayer song by Aishwarya Katti, a student of the Physiotherapy Department. The guests were formally welcomed by Mrs. Lavanya Kulkarni, Asst. Professor, Mr. Sheshadri K., Assistant Professor, delivered the Vote of Thanks. The program was compared by Miss Nikkita, Lecturer, School of Law.
