Guest Lecture on the Topic “Conducting ADR Simulation: Theory and Practice”

A guest lecture on “Conducting ADR Simulation: Theory and Practice” was organized for the II Year LL.B. students (LL.B IV Semester) on 13/06/2026 at 12:30 p.m at BLDE (DU), School of Law, Vijayapura. The resource person for the session was  Dr. Prasanna kumar D, Associate Professor, Karnataka Law Society’s, R. L. Law College, Belagavi.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the guest speaker by Mrs. Lavanya Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, School of Law, Vijayapura who introduced the resource person and highlighted his academic contributions in the field of law.

 In the session, Dr. Prasanna kumar D explained the concept, importance, and practical application of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. He focused particularly on the conduct of ADR simulations as a part of student assessment and practical legal training. The resource person thought the significance of developing problem-solving, negotiation, mediation, and arbitration skills among law students.

To provide practical exposure, sir presented a problem before the students and guided them through the process of resolving it in an ADR setting. He explained the various stages involved in ADR simulations, including:

– Identification of issues involved in the dispute.

– Framing of claims and counter-claims.

– Analysis of facts and legal provisions.

– Presentation of arguments by both parties.

– Preparation and pronouncement of the award/settlement.

– Proper division of roles and responsibilities among participants as required by law.

The resource person also demonstrated how legal problems should be presented during simulations and explained the methodology for effective participation and assessment. The students actively engaged in the exercise and gained valuable practical insights into ADR proceedings.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Sheshadri K., Assistant Professor, School of Law, Vijayapura who expressed gratitude to Dr. Prasanna kumar D for sharing his expertise and guiding the students through the practical aspects of ADR simulations.
